Lavaughn R Wells - Boise, ID

Lavaughn R. Wells was a music educator for 30 years. She taught elementary music in the Bedford and Lexington Public Schools in Ohio. She was director of choral music in Mapleton High and Junior High Schools, Ashland County, Ohio, Madison Junior High School in Mansfield, Ohio, Benton Junior High School in Marshall County, Kentucky, and Calloway County Senior High and Junior High Schools in Murray, Kentucky. After moving to Idaho where her husband, David, created the Boise State Blue Thunder Marching Band, she taught choral music, music appreciation, and theory at Nampa High School.

Her Calloway County High School Chamber Singers performed in the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, and the Nampa High School Chamber Singers performed at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

Lavaughn received a Bachelor of Music Education from Ashland University in Ohio and a Master of Music Education from Murray State University in Kentucky. She was named to Who's Who Among Students and Who's Who among Educators and was an Ohio Music Education Association choral music festival adjudicator.

She was a band and band auxiliary uniform designer and her flags were featured by hundreds of marching bands across the United States. She was a travel coordinator with Cavalcade USA.

A member of the Cathedral of the Rockies First United Methodist Church, she was an active member of the arts ministry and taught Cathedral College classes. She donated Trompette En Chamade in memory of her husband, David.

Lavaughn was the daughter of the Rev. Clarence and Edna Kindley, and the wife of Professor David A. Wells. Her sisters, Margaret Dean and Alice Ault reside in Rockford, Illinois, and Webster Groves, Missouri. The Wells family includes sons, Steven and Scott; daughters-in-law, Simonne and GayeLynn; and grandsons, Christopher and Nicholas.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in the summer of 2023.
